Trade Out of Poverty at Autumn Conferences 2017

APPG-TOP’s charity partner, Trade Out of Poverty, will be participating in and/or organising fringe events at three national party conferences this Autumn.

For further information, please contact Ms Alex Hancock, Fringe Events Coordinator at Trade Out of Poverty via email TOP@saana.com

Liberal Democrat Party Conference

At the Liberal Democrat Party Conference, one of the Trade Out of Poverty Trustees, Tom Pengelly, will be participating in a fringe event panel discussion organised by Bond on 17th September. The theme of this panel is “What is the future of UK aid and economic cooperation in our turbulent world?” Participants will discuss their ideas for the future of UK aid and whether aid needs a radical overhaul.

Venue: Bayview Suite 1, Bournemouth International Centre
Date: Sunday 17th September
Time: 16:30 – 17:30

Labour Party Conference

At Labour Party Conference, Trade Out of Poverty is co-hosting a fringe event with the Overseas Development Institute themed around UK-Africa trade and investment post Brexit. The UK’s decision to exit the European Union has put a spotlight on our trade and investment relationships around the world. For developing nations in Africa, trade and investment can be an important means to reduce poverty and achieve development goals – and the UK is a crucial partner in this process.

Venue: Eugenie Room, The Grand Hotel, Brighton
Date:
25th September
Time:
16:00pm – 18:00pm

Speakers:

Barry Gardiner MP  –  @BarryGardiner – Shadow Secretary of State for International Trade and Shadow Minister for Energy and Climate Change

Chi Onwurah MP – @ChiOnwurah – Shadow Minister for Industrial Strategy and Chair of the Africa All-Party Parliamentary Group

The theme of our fringe event is “Trading & Investing into Prosperity in the Commonwealth”, which is particularly timely given the current high levels of interest in future UK trade and development policy post Brexit, and the UK Government hosting the next Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in April 2018.
